When I published Drowning, I dedicated the book to ‘all of our sisters’. At the time, I didn’t realize how encompassing that dedication was, until recently. I knew the statistics. I had the facts. I had done my research.
As I have given presentations about domestic violence and Drowning sales have increased, women have come to me with their personal stories. I’ve embraced their openness and willingness to share. I’ve learned from them. I am moved by their stories.
I have a message to share with you. We all have a story to be told. We have journeyed through hell. We have grown stronger. We are survivors. We are all sisters.
Let’s keep working hard to share the message that domestic violence in any capacity will not be tolerated. We deserve respect and true love.
Although painful, we need to keep talking about this subject. Open the eyes to those untouched by abuse. Educate our children.
Remember, if we can help just one woman, we’ve done our job.
